IODL 2006‘da birer makale sunmak için Dr. Murat Yücelen ile Eskişehir’e gitmişken (bu ayrı bir blog girdisini hak ediyor ) e-posta kontrolü de yapmayı ihmal etmeyelim dedik ve bir de ne görelim üniversitenin bilgisayar bilimleri bölüm başkanı Chris Stephenson yine eğlenceli bir e-posta yollayıp yeni açılacak bir dersi duyurmuş:

- Music on Linux -

The course Comp 291 (Selected topics in Computer Science I) in the full list of electives will, this term, look at the use of Free Software to process, notate and compose music. It will interest musicians (professional and amateur), computer scientists and anyone with more than a passing interest in either music or computers.

The course requires minimal previous knowledge.

The lecturer will be Ruhan İkeda.

This is her description of the course:

In this course, we will be processing musical information on a computer. We will be using a special Linux distribution for audio and music: Agnula / Demudi. We first analyze Agnula’s architecture on which we will be doing all of our practice.

We will be looking at musical information’s various stages:

In the sound card : Playing and recording
Representation / notation
Storage, different formats, conversions
Programming, algorithmic composition

Ruhan İkeda‘nın bu ilginç ve zevkli derste ele alacağı ve öğreteceği konulardan bir kısmı da de algoritmik besteleme bağlamında Common Music ve ses sentezleme yazılımı CLM olacak. Belki Csound da müfredata ya da bir seminer dersine dahil olabilir.

Amatör ve profesyonel müzisyenlere, müzikle dinlemenin ötesinde ilgilenen bilgisayar bilimcilere ve matematikçilere hitap eden böyle bir dersin açıldığını görmek sevindirici. Evrensel işletim sistemi Debian GNU/Linux tabanlı Agnula / Demudi ile zevkli ve müzikal bir ders dönemi geçireceğimizi düşünüyorum.

Eğer zamanımı ve malzemeleri ayarlayabilirsem bir ihtimal ben de daha önce bir miktar uğraşmış olduğum yapay zekâ ve müzik konusunda bu ders bağlamında bir seminer vereceğim. Tabii bunun dışında yine zamanım elverirse derslere katılmak ve GNU/Linux ile müzik uygulamaları hakkındaki bilgimi artırmak istiyorum.

Bu arada Ruhan İkeda’nın Santral Müzik platformundaki Müzik ve Teknoloji başlıklı makalesini tekrar okumakta fayda var.
